Proper tyres inflation: When to put air in your car tyres?
08.06.2021

To maintain your tyres and suspension system parts, inflating tyres is more important to your car than you may think. In the fact that tyres are the first part of your vehicle that experience on the road surface. Therefore, without taking good care of it, there will be several consequences.

Do you know when to put air in your car tyres?

Tire manufacturers suggested that the most accurate reading filling the air to car tyres is when they are cold. Here is the trip, the most effective way is in the morning or after 2-3 hours parking your car in the shade. But if the outside temperature is still high, it would be better to inflate it 2 psi higher than their default. (Please be ensured that you need to follow your tyres specification and your right front wheel on the driver side door.) or you can fill it a bit higher than the instruction. Afterwards, you can check the pressure level again. If it exceeds the limit, you can let the air come out till it balances. This way might seem a bit confusing.

How to check the maximum tyres' inflation level?

You can check each tyre of your car for the maximum pressure from the proper number on top of the tyre that the company provided it. For example, as you can see the word on the wheel "MAX PRESS. 35PSI" This number tell you the maximum pressure your wheel can get. So, you should not go beyond the Max press, because the accident could occur and you might be in danger while driving from the tyres' explosion.

If tyres are having low air pressure or high, what will happen?

  • -Low air pressure

Even though you might feel softer while driving, it will be less responsive. This might cause your engine to work heavier in order to accelerate your car to go forward. It consumes your fuels more than usual.  In addition, it can cause the tire sidewall to twist causing the heat and pressure in the tire to expand more, causing the tire to deform, increase the risk of explosion.

  • -High air pressure

With the high air pressure in your tyres, you might feel the tension and more responsive on the road while driving. This might be better for a starting point, but may reduce the efficiency of the road adhesion, especially for the curve and breaking system. It might shorten your tyres' durability. Due to the stiffer tyres, it can cause less flexibility, meaning more vibration or shock into the cabin.  This causes the car's suspension to work heavier and have the potential to be damaged.

For a long journey, you should fill it up 3 to 5 psi more and try to decrease the unnecessary load. Because the heavier the load your engine has to carry, the more work for it. Lately, it could consume more fuels.

Summary:

As mentioned above, the proper tyres pressure depends on the size of the tyres, the size and type of your car (according to the instructions attached to the driver door side) and your driving style. For your safety, while driving and utilizing the tyres potential and suspension, we would like to suggest that do not forget to check the spare tyres pressure regularly to be ready for use.
